BREAKING AWAY is a story of loss, healing, and love… where unexpected turns and heartache lead to passion.

To Nashville Assassins’ leading scoring center Phillip Anderson, playing hockey has always been easy… as natural as breathing. His life is no different. That’s until his world is turned upside down by the death of his sister. While mourning his loss, Phillip has to find a way to make his very angry sixteen-year-old niece, Claire, happy. Now, as her guardian, he discovers the only thing that seems to heal her lonely heart is dance class. But what he didn’t count on was the attraction he’d feel towards her drop-dead sexy dance teacher.

For Reese Allen, dancing has always been part of her soul. After having her heart broken in New York, she comes home with the determination to make her dance studio one of the best in Tennessee and succeeds. When she sees Claire dance for the first time, she knows the girl is bound for greatness and takes the troubled teen under her wing. Using dance as therapy, she suddenly finds herself bound to the young woman… and her hot-as-sin uncle.

However, Phillip and Reese are happy in their single lives. It’s simple. They do what they want, who they want, and how they want, but from the moment they meet, the attraction is undeniable. Soon, they are more than willing to spend just one night tangled in the sheets. But, one night turns into two, and two turns into three, until they find themselves in a repeated dance of “One Last Time” that has the potential to be something more… if only Reese and Claire allow it.

Can Phillip find a way to thaw the hearts of both the women in his life, or will he be forever trying to break them away from their pasts?

Great, heart-warming favorite of the series. This book centers around patient love. Lots of emotions...both laughing and crying throughout the book. Excellent read!
  • Loved Phillip and Reese

I fall more and more in love with the series with each book. Each story, each couple, each alpha hockey player, each strong and sexy woman. Phillip is my favorite besides Shea. He's in a class all his own. This book will be a roller coaster of fun, steaminess, rejection, and healing. I can't wait to see more of Phillip and Reese as the series goes. Their story is just the right amount of feels.

Hockey star, Phillip Anderson, life is upended when his sister dies leaving him the guardian of his enraged sixteen-year-old niece, Claire. Dancer, Reese Allen, left her successful life in New York after her heart was broken. She opens a dance studio in Tennessee resolved to make it a success. She discovers a talented sixteen-year-old girl named, Claire, who she takes under her wing. Phillip and Reese are undeniably attracted to each other but not wanting a relationship or to hurt Claire. I adore Phillip. I have a blond-haired cousin/godson named Phillip, that just got a college hockey scholarship. I couldn’t help thinking about him every time I read his name. This being said, my Phil had a much better home life growing up. I sympathized for Toni’s Phillip. He managed to turn out okay considering his parental situation. It killed me that he didn’t get that much love. He is such a wonderful guy never wanting to give up on the people he cares about. I love Reese; she is hard working, determined, and stubborn. She was hurt in the past, so she doesn’t let anyone in (other than family). Those that don’t really know her view her as cold but there is a lot more to her then meets the eye. Phillip and Claire attempt to chisel away her defenses. The three are really perfect together, obstacles and all. I enjoyed reading about the dance aspect of the story. I don’t have a daughter, and I never danced so this was new for me. I do have many friends who have daughters who are serious dancers that compete throughout the country. My son plays travel hockey, and I always tell my dance friends that I feel like it is as intense as travel hockey. They all agree. I have always felt that the two activities are a lot alike although different. So I loved that dance and hockey were the passions of the main characters of this story. Toni Aleo is such a terrific author. She has an incredible way of making you feel connect with all of her characters, completely investing you as a reader. I experienced every emotion while reading this book: I laughed; I smiled; I cried. Plus, previous members of the Assassins’ hockey family are always included making the story all the more powerful. I can’t wait for Laces and Lace (Assassins #6). Between Phillips’s little chat with Karson King in this book and after reading Tangled in the Laces (Assassins #5.6) (found in the anthology, Seduced by the Game) I’m dying for Karson’s story. I have a feeling it is going to be very powerful. If you are already an Assassins fan, you won’t be disappointed with Breaking Away. If you haven’t read it yet, what are you waiting for? It’s a great series, whether you like, hockey, sports romance, contemporary romance, or being emotionally invested in your characters. The books can stand alone, but I would read them in order. There is always something in a previous book that makes you enjoy the characters all the more. Complimentary copy provided in exchange for an honest review.

Such a good book. Very long but loved it!! Reese, Phillip and Claire r the main characters-Reese the dance instructor who owns her own studio. Phillip who is a excellent hockey player in the "Assasin's" league. Claire, Phillips niece who has had a very rough life with very little love given to her during her fifteen years; she now has Phillip in her life. Story of these three characters coming together, learning about each other, learning to trust and love, and becoming a family. Book was very long which is unusual anymore. There r many mis-spelled words as well as incorrect verbiage which changes the meaning if a sentence. Looking forward to next two books in this series. Love reading about each of the team members, they are all a tight knit family.

Again Toni Aleo does an amazing job bringing her characters to life. Philip is an amazing hockey player at the top of his game. He is also able to get any women he wanted. Thus changed when he becomes the legal guardian of his niece Claire. His life is turned on its side and tries everything he can to do it right. Reece is an amazing dancer, strong, independent women. However, she doesn't believe in love and because if this she seems very cold hearted. She is all for the casual hookup with a man that U.S. Strong, and good looking. However, both Phillip and Reece's lives change when Claire is enrolled into Reece's dance studio. Their worlds collide and their attraction is very strong and hot. However, Phillip has made a promise that he is trying so hard not to break even if it breaks the best thing to happen to his love life, Reece. So, how will they handle their attraction and respect Claire's wishes?

I am a fan of this series yet it seems as though it was not edited. The grammar was atrocious and in several places the wording had me rereading it over and over to make sense of it all.
