The official playscript of the original West End production of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child.

It was always difficult being Harry Potter and it isn't much easier now that he is an overworked employee of the Ministry of Magic, a husband, and father of three school-age children.

While Harry grapples with a past that refuses to stay where it belongs, his youngest son Albus must struggle with the weight of a family legacy he never wanted. As past and present fuse ominously, both father and son learn the uncomfortable truth: sometimes, darkness comes from unexpected places.

The playscript for Harry Potter and the Cursed Child was originally released as a 'special rehearsal edition' alongside the opening of Jack Thorne's play in London's West End in summer 2016. Based on an original story by J.K. Rowling, John Tiffany and Jack Thorne, the play opened to rapturous reviews from theatregoers and critics alike, while the official playscript became an immediate global bestseller.

This definitive and final playscript updates the 'special rehearsal edition' with the conclusive and final dialogue from the play, which has subtly changed since its rehearsals, as well as a conversation piece between director John Tiffany and writer Jack Thorne, who share stories and insights about reading playscripts. This edition also includes useful background information including the Potter family tree and a timeline of events from the Wizarding World prior to the beginning of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child.

  • Least Favorite in Series

Out of all the Harry Potter books, this one is my least favorite. Since it is in a script format, it is less enjoyable than the other books in the series. One of the best parts of the Harry Potter books is the creative writing done by Rowling, but there’s less of that in this book, since it’s mainly dialogue. Not only that, but all of the characters seemed strangely different, such as Dolores Umbridge and Severus Snape. If you’ve read the book you may think it’s because Scorpio and Albus changed the past. But the characters did things that I would think to be very unlikely for them. This book, in my mind, should only be used to create a play as it can become extra dramatic in some parts. Overall, this book is a disappointment.

It is a very weak attempt to continue the Harry Potter series. The plot is convoluted and cannot be even remotely believable due to a multutude of inaccuracies. The tone swings between wanna-be J.K Roowling and an unbearable sap. All characters are two-dimensional at best. This ‘read' hardly deserves the single star rating.

I like it and it’s an okay add on of the Harry Potter franchise but I wish it was longer than it is and it’s also very slow so it doesn’t have much of the normal books and also the kids would have been caught any way because of the trace.

This book is okay, it’s very confusing in my opinion. I’d much rather read it from a main characters point of view. But of course since I’m to impatient to wait for the book to come out (if it ever comes out) I had to read this book, and now Harry Potter and the cursed child is ruined for me. I love the Delphi part and everything but I hate how boring it can get. Overall I didn’t really like it, and if you can I suggest waiting for the real book to come out. Not to mention the fact that I don’t want to sit here and read about a gay relationship. I would be extremely disappointed if that’s how it turned out. Well more disappointed I already am. I didn’t grow up with Harry Potter or anything but when I finally read it I fell in love with the books. This book is very, very disappointing. I do NOT recommend it at all.
